help please!

Postby amandasue » Wed Nov 08, 2006 1:22 am

My internet provider cut me off because apparently my computer was sending them spam. I didn't know anything about that and still don't.

I got my internet back(with a stern warning not to do it again) I took my computer back to factory settings but can anyone tell me how in the heck to prevent this from happening again?

could my computer still be spamming?

help please

When I say "OS" I mean operating system, like Windows, Linux, or Mac etc. Netstat is a command line tool that displays a list of the active connections a computer currently has, both incoming and outgoing. Assuming your running Windows do the following (when your online): Click the start menu and select run. In the run dialog box type cmd and then hit enter. In the command prompt window that appears type netstat. Copy the results of that command and paste them into this forum. This will tell us if you are currently listening on any ports for incoming connections.

Also if your running windows download and run ad-aware, which can be found here:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html
This program will scan your system for spyware. Be sure to update it's definition file before scanning your system. Also download this free anti-virus called AVG, which can be found here:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download886.html
Be sure to also scan your system for viruses with this program.

Also if your running Windows be sure to visit Windows Update to get security patches for your system. Windows Update can be found here (link must be opened in Internet Explorer):
