windows updates

Postby lbreevesii » Fri Jul 13, 2007 4:21 pm

Anybody know of a place to get/ how to build a disk that will have all of the current windows updates on it that wil run with the click of a button or two?

As many systems as I have to install windows on and do updates it would save a ton of time and bandwidth to have something that can do it.

Probably not

You have to go to Windows Update and have your system scanned
for available updates.Check the ones you want, then ckick install.
I'll have another look and see if i can.

guys....I'm a computer technician. I am constantly installing windows in clients machines. The point here is to have a DISK that HAS ALL windows updates ON IT that will autorun or run with just a click or two.

The idea is that it saves you the time and bandwidth of having to download 90+ updates for every single stinking machine over and over again.

Doesn't answer the ? asked as follows,
from lbreevesii,
IF IT can be done and HOW to do it.

that didn't make much sense to me oldtimer.

"...disk(CD) that will have all of the current windows updates on it that will run with the click of a button or two? "

Do you guys understand what I am trying to do? I want a CD/DVD that I can just pop in and maybe click a couple of times that will install every windows update without having to have an internet connection present.

Can it be done? i'm sure it can.

Do I know how to go about 'making' such a disk? In theory yes, in practical application...probably not.

Has somebody else probably already wanted to do this and done it? Probably, therefore I want to know if anybody has heard of such. I know for a fact this has been done for windows 98(unofficial service pack 2 I think its called), but to my knowledge it has not been done for XP.

Well slipstreaming XP with sp2 is easy...
http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp2_cd.htm

but you will still have the post SP2 updates to install. I don't really know how you could do what you want larry. Well you could make an image but then that image will only be good for machines of the exact same configuration...

Actually I just did a quick google and found this:

Try it out and let us know if it worked for you.

The only reason for this is a new OS install. Then the first thing you do,
is go to Windows update , get your OS checked , and select install all.
You can only use them on the PC it analyzes as far as i can see.

it will become a troublesome task for you.
as downloading a very small size of updates and making a autorun cd every time a new patch from microsoft is a foolisj thing.
because updates are not available all at one time.

I really do not know how, you can do what you want Larry. You can put images, but images can only be exactly the same configuration of the machine ...
