Why does my net connection keep getting lost?

Postby Smith08 » Mon May 26, 2008 1:00 pm

I was on the phone all day Friday with Vonage, trying to solve a problem with their VTech IP8100 phone adapter. It had been connected as shown in the setup guide through one of the ports on my LinkSys BEFSR41 router, but nearly two months ago it stopped working.

After much agony, I got a tech support person who told me that despite what the guide says, the preferred method of installation was with the phone adapter in front of the router. This required reprogramming both of them, and it put the router at the mercy of the VTech device, which seems stupid to me.

Furthermore, I now have a new problem: After several hours, I lose my computer's connection to the internet (though I don't lose my phone service), and I have to reboot to reconnect.

Any suggestions, other than spending another eight hours on the line to Vonage?

You may have loose connection in the router. If your network wires fail then you suddenly loose internet connection. Check the wires if possible
