wireless networking

Postby stoobs67 » Mon Oct 16, 2006 11:27 pm

I have my desktop and notebook networked together. At first it they were both connected via hardwire and i could send files over the network fine. I just put in a wireless card in the router, but now i cant access the network with my noteook wireless. Also the desktop cannot see the notebook. I am running xp pro on the desktop and digital media center on the notebook, and an intertex router. thanks

Assuming you have a p2p windows workgroup, are you sure the computers are members of the same workgroup? You can check this by going into System Properties and clicking the Computer Name tab. In this tab make sure the computer workgroup is set the same on both machines.

Can both the machines access the internet properly? Do you have file sharing enabled?

i would check two things. Do you have windows firewall on? and try putting one of the computers in the DMZ and see if it shows up.

Both machines can share files via hardwire, when I go wireless with the notebook i can no longer access the network. But I can get on the net fine.

Sounds like some ports on the wireless router are blocked. I don't know anything about this particular router, but search the manual and google for instructions on how to open ports.
