Printer location

Postby leta » Fri Sep 01, 2006 3:57 pm

I am trying to install my new HP Photosmart C4180 All in One printer. I uninstalled my previous Photosmart 100 HP. I have the C4180 set as the default printer. I need to know where to look for the location (address) of this printer. Everything tells me that it is properly installed, except that I have this one place where the location line is blank. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you mean that you are looking for the network address of the printer?

When I click on the bar in the lower right hand corner and click on the printer, it brings up a place where I click on properties. The top box has HP Photosmart C 4100. and then the next box has location: and it is blank. Where do I find the location address? Thanks....

I don't quite understand where your clicking and see propertys.
What are you looking for ?
Heres where you find info about your printer.
Start Menu,settings,Control Panel,Printers and Faxes.
Start Menu,Programs,Hewlett Packard/Printername.
Propertys is usually a shortcut telling you for example,
C:\Programs\Hewlett Packard (where it's installed)
But the start menu has all the links you need to configure it.
Have you printed anything yet ?

 I guess by now you have guessed that you are talking to a 70 year old "wanna be computer whiz!"

I am not sure where I need to be looking. When I first installed this printer, and made it the default printer, I could print some things, such as a word perfect document, and I could print pictures from the printer, as long as they were installed from a memory card. Each time I try to scan, it scans, but does not make communication with the computer, where I can retrieve it. I uninstalled everything (as the instructions said) and re-installed, but it did not do anything differently. I did un-install my previous printer, which was an HP Photosmart 1000. Would that have anything to do with it, since it was a Photosmart, too? I really do appreciate your help.

Hi from an oldtimer.

I'm 72.
Depending where you live and being brand new HP has toll free support
for a certain length of time. It's in the manual.

But removeing all traces of the old one is very important.
Do you think you followed the install directions right ?
!!! Don't let "Windows (detected new hardware)
search for a driver" ignore this alert.
Use the cd.

HP is a very good Co. to deal with.
Or if you bought it locally say Future Shop they might exchange or test it free,They did for me.

I bought it at Circuit City and am sure I can get someone to get it to going. Thanks again!
